Description

By Ray Griffiths

We are designed to grow and build in the presence of food, and housekeeping of our cells and metabolism during fasting. With the excess food intake of modern life, many of us have lost our connection to these primitive forces, that have been with us since the evolution of unicellular organisms.

The brain is continually remodelling our neural connections to adapt to our ever-changing world. Depression, epilepsy and neurodegeneration can all be impacted by how we eat. The Ketogenic Diet is a recognised treatment in epilepsy, and is thought to work by balancing nutrient sensing and neural connectivity within the brain.

This event will cover the intersection of diet, health and disease from an evolutionary perspective. You will learn:

  • How excess growth drives can impact inflammation, neurodegeneration, cancer, fertility, bone health, cardiovascular health and autoimmunity.
  • How poor housekeeping can lead to an accumulation of dysfunctional cellular proteins, again affecting multiple health conditions.
  • The role of wound healing as a delicate balance of growth and housekeeping (debris removal), and how excess of nutrients can lead to becoming chronically inflamed, driving excess proliferation and risking tumour growth.
  • The role of inflammatory T cells, and how they are sensitive to our food intake.
